Spatial Arrangement

The 5 point plan:

An Emphasis on materials
  • How the form and structure can be created through design research and experimentation

  • The process behind the destruction and disassembly of the existing building and how that will impact on the approach taken for the construction of the new building

An Attitude to the Environment
  • How to minimise the environmental impact of the building with regard to both material extraction and how the building operates itself

  • How to generate electricity through the kiln inside the icon and how this can power part of the design

  • How rainwater can be harvested to create a new civic space in the centre of the project

A new Icon for Stretford
  • How the form of the building can still be derived from industry and vistas and how this approach will cement the construction of the design

  • An idea of Factories making the person as well as the product; industry for 21st century living

The redevelopment of Edge Lane
  • Using Edge Lane as an opportunity for a new communal retail outlet

  • Creating a shop front made in the community, run by the community and funded to the community; a circular economy based around a shared experience of value

A new civic space for Stretford
  • How the space surrounding the buildings can be adopted to administer a new park, centred on social interaction and community engagement; an opportunity for informal events and the gathering of strangers

  • The opportunity of enhancing the circulation to the canal by Stretford and how this can create a new identity of an area with enriching green space.
